The World Health Organization (WHO) is an organization of the United Nations which was founded to promote and improve health throughout the world. The primary objective sought by delegates in the WHO is fighting various diseases and improving health care systems all around the world.
As of 2024, one person dies every 34 seconds from heart related disease. Going into 2027, heart disease and stroke still continue to be one of the main causes of death all across the world, as they account for millions of deaths yearly, putting a huge burden on medical institutions and national economies. Though many cases of cardiovascular disease are preventable by leading a healthy lifestyle, undergoing regular check-ups, and receiving adequate medical care, there still exist inequalities among different countries and within them. The current poor state of our healthcare infrastructure, shortage of specialists, and inability to afford medical care and treatment contribute to health issues in developing nations and exacerbate global inequality. The growth of obesity, diabetes, smoking, and a sedentary lifestyle has made the situation even worse.
The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted problems in the health sector of many nations and resulted in delayed diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In addition to increased morbidity rates, cardiovascular diseases entail disability and financial losses for both citizens and states. Delegates working on this topic should work together to analyze the ways to improve prevention programs, increase access to medical services, raise awareness, and cooperate globally in addressing the problem.
