Established in 1997, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is committed to promoting justice and safety by cracking down on illicit drugs, organized crime, terrorism, corruption, and online fraud. UNODC brings the countries of the world together under the common goal of working with governments to identify criminal activity, develop legislation to unearth transnational criminal groups, producing research and forensic services on drug issues, and providing technical training to investigate crime and protect victims. 

In 1839, the first Opium War was fought between China and Britain, setting the stage for the legal production and distribution of opium and leading to one of the worst addiction epidemics in human history. Tensions that arose between Britain, China, and their allies widened the divide between Eastern and Western powers, and the chances of unification seemed bleak. 

Now, in the 1990s, social health looks dodgy as global overdoses from potent opioids blow up. Public mental health is in free-fall, politicians are divided, the economy is weakening, and crime is ever increasing, prompting the creation of UNODC to combine the forces of various UN branches and reunite a drug-torn world. The committee will tackle the efficient and targeted navigation of illegal opioid distribution as well as state alliances in light of divisions stemming from the mid-1800s. Our delegates must create resolutions that balance righteous action with partnership.
