General AssemblyCommission on Science and Technology for Development
The Commission on Science and Technology for Development recognizes the importance of growing biotechnology and its challenges created by the (also growing) biotechnology divide. Many countries such as underdeveloped countries and areas like low-income or rural areas don't have access to these important biotechnology innovations which can hinder the healthcare system and the lives of people. Addressing this divide is crucial for the happiness and health of these people and the development of these countries.
Germs, bacteria, and illnesses have been around for over billions of years, even before the existence of humans. More diseases are made in the air around us just as we speak, hoping none of them become the next major outbreak. Biotechnology is advancing every day, helping us find cures, vaccines, and preventions to these diseases. Unfortunately, many areas in many countries don't have access to this technology which creates the biotech divide. Because of this divide, families don't have access right away access to these cures, many families lose jobs, and they fall back behind on technology of science. This can impact other problems such as the environment and social problems for countries. Our delegates are tasked to find a solution to this divide so that every human being and every area have access to this technology.
